Because we didn’t know Hudsyn would be born with a cleft lip/palate, we, of course, were not prepared for what all it would entail. We still don’t know exactly what to expect for the future, but we are learning as we go. A couple of weeks ago we took Hudsyn for a consultation with a pediatric oral/facial plastic surgeon in Oklahoma City. We loved him. He was very thorough and made us feel very comfortable. He started with a slide show including facts about children born with cleft lip/palate, statistics, and lots of before and after pictures. He answered most of our questions before we had even asked them and was very reassuring.
We had to work some things out with the insurance and it took until now, but everything is straightened out and we have a surgery date! Hudsyn will have her first of two lip surgeries December 12 at OU Children’s Hospital. The second one will be 6 to 8 weeks later. The way I understand it, they will do the outer part of the lip during the first surgery and the inner part during the second. Then, when she is 12 months old they will repair her palate.
He also went over a long list of surgeries/procedures, and therapies she may or may not need throughout the years.  Orthodontics, hearing, and speech are a few of the areas that could be affected. We will just have to take things how they come and do what needs to be done. I cannot wait to see what God’s does in this little girl’s life!
